The Northeast Freight Corridors Charging Plan (NFCCP) is a 2-year study and Regional Medium and Heavy-Duty Vehicle (MHDV) Charging Plan funded by the US Department of Energy Vehicle Technologies Office (VTO). This study will look at needed upgrades to the power grid to support a regional plan for public charging hubs serving Electric Medium and Heavy-Duty Trucks across established freight corridors. The proposed locations are in 9 states throughout the Northeast.
This project is looking at electrification needs of 130+ public sites for Electric Truck Charging Infrastructure, as well as the Port of New York and New Jersey. The plan will identify 30-40 sites to prioritize. Site prioritization scoring will include State Planning Priorities, Utility Power Load Forecast, Proximity to existing Power Infrastructure, and Environmental Justice Impact.
Vermont Clean Cities and Communities is a part of the project’s Environmental Justice Advisory Committee and are trained by the DOE National Labs on Justice 40, Environmental Justice initiatives, mapping, alternative fueled vehicles and alternative fuel infrastructure. Each site will be scored and 25% of each score will be determined by EJ criteria. VTCCC is providing outreach to communities of potential charging sites and will work with those communities to determine the score.
The Sites with the highest scores, combined with making sure to have adequate coverage across the Northeast Region, will form the backbone of the plan.
