The “Northern Stars of the Northeast” is a recognition program for the Northeast Clean Cities’ stakeholders that demonstrate a strong commitment to reducing their petroleum consumption through the implementation of various practices. The program is supported by s supported by eight Northeast Cities Coalitions including Capital District Clean Communities (NY), Empire Clean Cities (NY), Granite State Clean Cities (NH), Greater New Haven Clean Cities (CT), Maine Clean Communities, Massachusetts Clean Cities, Ocean State Clean Cities (RI), and Vermont Clean Cities.
In order to be recognized as a Northern Star, a stakeholder fleet must, at a minimum, use an alternative fuel in at least 30% of their fleet’s vehicles. The program started as the “Northern Stars of New England” fleet recognition program as part of the FY12 DOE Clean Cities grant “Removing Barriers, Implementing Policies, and Advancing Alternative Fuel Markets in New England”.
